What Is Malaria?
Malaria is an irregular fever caused by protozoan parasite that invades the red blood cells and is infecting major organs such as the heart, kidney, and even the brain. There are five species of malaria: Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium knowlesi. There are over 27 million deaths per year caused by malaria and in 2012 alone, there were 627,000 deaths according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
